In order to make sure that your WebQuest stays aligned with your unit, you will need to copy and paste 3 things from your Stages 1 and 2 from Dr. Grace's wiki onto this page. (This will also help Dr. Theresa give you better feedback on your Intro, Task, and Conclusion.) Then you will write your first drafts of your Introduction and Conclusion.

G.R.A.S.P.S

( Feel free to copy and paste what you have on your wiki page for Dr. Grace for the GRASPS portion of your unit (Stage 2). Note that you don't need the Standards part, though you can include it if you want.)
Goal: Your task is to create a glogster that will convince the World Wildlife Foundation to donate conservation funds to your chosen endangered animal.

Role: You are an animal lover who is trying to save an endangered species.

Audience: You need to convince the World Wildlife Fund to donate $100,000 in conservation funds to the endangered species you care about.

Situation: The challenge involves dealing with presenting the information in a convincing format with real world application.

Product & Performance: You will create a glogster for the World Wildlife Fund to convince them to donate $100,000 in conservation funds to the endangered species you care about.

Understanding(s)

(Copy and paste the big understanding(s) you have listed in your unit for Dr. Grace in Stage 1 (the answers to the essential questions). What are the academic goals for the unit (which will also be the purpose of the WebQuest).)

• carrying capacity limits the number of individuals and populations that can be supported.
• biotic and abiotic factors affect population size.
• challenges that populations face to maintain their size.

You will present your glogster to the World Wildlife Foundation with an intent to get them to give conservation funds to your endangered species. You must include a graph made with excel to show the population decline. You also must show one image, one video, and one graph. You must highlight how carrying capacity and population challenges (including human impact) are affecting your favorite species. If the World Wildlife Foundation selects your glogster, $100,000 will go towards conservation efforts for your species. Therefore, you must provide as much data as possible to convince them. The glogster must be creative and engaging in appearance. The glogster also must look professional and must be free of mechanical errors. All research included in the glogster must be included in your bibliography section.

Introduction

(Set the stage, give us any background info that we might need to know (but just a hint), this is your HOOK. Provide a segue to the Task . . . make your reader want to click to the next section. There should be nothing that sounds like school work in this section. Don't give away what's going to happen in the Task.)
How would you like to win $100,000...?

Task

(This story should match the Task Description/Summary from your unit in Stage 2 (Through what authentic performance task will students demonstrate understandings?). You can copy and paste from Dr. Grace's wiki. Tell the story of the Role, Audience, Situation, and Product & Performance. Be a story teller. Save any classroom-specific information for the Process. Build the scenario and stay in character. You can reference the Introduction but try not to duplicate the information that's in the Introduction.)

Even animals need a little financial help sometimes. Please enter for your chance to win money towards rescue efforts for a endangered species of your choice.
... for the endangered species of your choice? The World Wildlife Foundation is giving away $100,000 for an endangered species to a student who can create the best glogster. Contest ends 11/14/13. No purchase or donation needed.
You are an animal lover concerned about your favorite endangered species. You will create a glogster dedicated to carrying capacity, species decline, and population size challenges. You will present your glogster to the World Wildlife Foundation with an intent to get them to give conservation funds to your endangered species. You must include a graph made with excel to show the population decline. You also must show one image, and one video. You must highlight how carrying capacity and population challenges (including human impact) are affecting your favorite species. If the World Wildlife Foundation selects your glogster, $100,000 will go towards conservation efforts for your species. Therefore, you must provide as much data as possible to convince them.

Conclusion

(Tie everything the participants have done back to the Goal. Why did they go through all of this? Tie the scenario to the real world. Remind them of the "Big Idea" that they were supposed to gain from this, just in case they didn't make the connection on their own. Don't get preachy. If you ask a question here, it has to be rhetorical. No work or assignments should be included. Short is good.)

Now that you are done with your glogster, you did not just enter a contest to win money about your species, but you raised your awareness of endangered species as well! You learned about the factors and challenges that influence species, how carrying capacity affects species, and why species become extinct. You also learned more about what humans are doing to try to rescue endangered species as well as the impact our society has on the animals we share our planet with. You are now a caring, compassionate, and informed citizen of the Earth! Remember to take the things you have learned from this contest and apply them to your studies in the future! Great job and good luck contestants!
